About this site

The Stablecoin Banker is a mostly bi-weekly newsletter tracking the trends and themes at the intersection of banking and digital assets. My goal is to help bankers keep track of the relevant developments, and more deeply understand their importance to the future of banking. Banking is undergoing an evolution driven by new technologies in digital assets and AI, changing regulation, increased access and competition from fintechs, and a more interconnected global economy. Tokenization will be a key part of this story, and I hope that this newsletter helps bankers update their thinking about how to engage in a market that's moving more rapidly than anything they've see in their careers.

About Me

Hi, I'm Davis, a co-founder and the CEO of Omnia, a stablecoin platform that powers tokenized payments products for banks.

My interest in this space is the culmination of a diverse background covering finance, technology, payments, stablecoin and banking. Early in my career, I learned the ins-and-outs of balance sheet management leading corporate finance for a small public company, which I had complete exposure and control over the balance sheet. At Google Payments, I built compliance and processing systems inside of a machine that processed billions of transactions monthly. After a stint as a product manager at Paxos, a leading stablecoin issuer, I took the plunge and attempted to charter a de novo stablecoin-issuing bank. While the timing was wrong - we started in late 2022 - the lessons were invaluable and triggered my fascination with the nuances of banking.

Banks are mysterious and unique institutions, imbued with the power to create money and engage in a version of financial alchemy called maturity transformation. They're also wrapped in centuries of arcane and nuanced history and regulation. Understanding banking, and figuring out how to do something new with it, is like solving a big puzzle that includes regulation, finance and human relationships. No one is ever truly a master of this space, but the intellectual reward from gaining an advanced understanding is deeply satisfying and I remain intrigued by it (my doctor says this is, in fact, normal).
